Gibraltar Views

Gibraltar is the highest point around. The tour exploits this, with spectacular views.

The tour begins at the top of a winding and confusing one lane road, snaking its way up the side of the Rock. The road then comes to an entrance booth where you hand in your fee and get a brochure in return. Right after the entrance is this monument - one side the ancient world, the other the modern world.

In case you couldn't read the plaques at the base of each side of the monument, they are reproduced here.

The view from the monument.
On the left is the military base. On a clear day you can see Morocco.

The view from further up the road.
This is the commercial Gibraltar.

This is the view to the north, toward Spain.
The entrance to the siege tunnels is at the upper right. Below starting at the right you can see the Mediterranian coast, industrial areas, a cemetery, the air strip, and the harbor.
Crossing the air strip is the road onto Gibraltar. There are only a few flights a day, but when they come in, the road is closed. Lynne and Kay are in front of the siege tunnel entrance at the upper right.
