Dick's May 1996 Genealogy Trip To Boston

After Lynne's Brown University Reunion, Dick dropped her off at Logan Airport in Boston to fly back home. Dick stayed on for a week to research genealogy in the Boston area. He spent most of his time at the New England Historic Genealogical Society library at 100 Newbury St. in Boston. The library is in Back Bay just a block from Copley Square. There are tons of places to eat lunch and dinner nearby and lots of sights to see.

Dick rented a room at the Best Western Terrace Inn at 1655 Commonwealth Avenue, on the Green Line trolley on the MBTA. It was about a 25 minute ride in to Copley Square each morning and the same back out at night.

It was Memorial Day and Dick had about six hours before he had to turn in the rental car, so he took the opportunity to look around Malden, Mass. Malden is a town north of Boston where his great-grandparents Herbert and Alice Hodgman lived before they moved to the Twin Cities in the late 1870s. Alice passed down photos of her visits back to the Boston area and Dick wanted to look up some of those sights in Malden and Boston.
