In July 2000 we visited Washington, D.C. to attend Lynne's Uncle Mo's wedding to Aunt Gail. We flew into Baltimore Friday July 7th where we rented a van for the weekend. The wedding was Saturday. We stayed through Friday of the following week and toured Washington with Lynne's sister Joan and her daughter Sarah and son Will.
For the wedding we stayed in a hotel in Alexandria, Virginia, across the Potomac from Washington. Alexandria includes a marina with a shopping area and a quaint old downtown with tourist shops and historical spots.
We visited the national cemetery at Arlington, Virginia.
Monday, we drove to Mount Vernon where we saw the Washington estate and paid our respects at the family tomb. We then drove into Washington and returned our rental van. We stayed the week in a hotel near Dupont Circle. Tuesday we toured the White House and Wednesday we were given a tour of the Capitol by interns from our Representative's office.
We visited the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the Renwick Museum, the Holocaust Museum, the National Gallery of Art, and of course the Smithsonian.
We ate in the food court in the Union Station, where we saw Chicken Run at one of the theaters. We shopped around Dupont Circle, near our hotel, where we ate home-made ice cream and lunch and dinner several days.
